WOW, first off I can't believe that it has been over a month since I posted here. Shame on me. Well you are about to be rewarded for my neglegence.

I am sending you on a little Scavenger Hunt, an Easter Egg Hunt if you will.

I have hidden 4 eggs throughout the listings in my ETSY SHOP.

They look similar to this

You will have to search through the listings to find the egg. Each egg has a different discount applied to it. In order to redeem the discount you will need to place your order AND in the

"Note to Seller" section tell me the amount of the discount AND what listing you found it in. I will then refund you the discount amount plus any significant shipping overages.

A couple rules {you know there has to be a few right?}

1. Only 1 discount per customer.

2. Discounts will be applied on a FIRST COME FIRST SERVE basis. Once a particular egg has been redeened it can not be used again by someone else. {I will remove the eggs once they have been redeemed)

3. You must include the name of the listing you found your egg in the NOTES TO SELLER section at checkout.

Fabric Swap!

I thought I would organize a little Fabric Swap with all my fabric obsessed friends (THATS YOU). Here is the low-down.

Basically I will partner each of you up. You are responsible for putting together your fabric and shipping it to your partner. When you email me to participate please let me know if you prefer US Shipping or International Shipping (meaning you would prefer to only ship within the US or you will gladly ship Internationally).

So dig through your stash and find some (or one) great print(s) that you are willing to part with. It could be a hard to find print, out of production print, brand spanking new print or maybe even a vintage print. Something that is clean and usable. Give something you would enjoy receiving yourself. All packages should be post marked by Dec 24, 2010.

I have participated in a few swaps in the past and have been very pleased with the results. I have always gotten a fabric I didn't have in my current stash so it was a fun surprise.

Venezie Fabrics has been open for 2 weeks now. Everything is running smoothly. New customers come in daily and share their excitement about having a new fabric shop in town. I have even had some repeat customers which makes me all sorts of giddy.

In order to ensure that I am open the best possible hours for my customers

I am going to experiment with the shop hours. Currently we are open

Monday - Saturday, 10:00 am - 5:00 pm.

This Thursday and Friday, October 14th & 15th the shop will be open from

11:00 am - 7:00 pm.

(this change is on a trial basis to see what the traffic in the shop will be like)

At 10:00 am I opened the door to a dream I never thought would become a reality.

Venezie Fabrics is now open for business!!!

My very first customer was my Aunt. As I was cutting her fabric, I took a deep breath and just kind of savored the moment. We were laughing....hey, my job is fun. I started to ring in her purchase and

BAM

I couldn't figure out how to use the dang register. It was really rather comical but I figured it out, handed her the bag and I nearly threw up all over the counter.

After that, I let go of my nerves and just enjoyed the day. So many wonderful friends and family stopped by, wished me luck and truly seemed to enjoy the shop (swoon).

Help me put fabrics together!!

So I need a little help. I want some opinions of some possible fabric combinations that I am thinking about using for aprons, dish towels, pot holders and coasters. I tend to put together things that I like but that may not be what a majority of my customers like (gasp). Please look through the following color combinations. In the upper right corner of the blog you can vote for your favorite combo. Need ideas for a Strawberry themed birthday party?

Recently we celebrated my daughters 5th birthday. This year she decided that she wanted a Strawberry Shortcake themed party. I squealed with delight and began the hunt for all things strawberry.

I had strawberry shaped, chocolate lollipops made to give as favors to all the kids.

I got them from Christines Chocolate Creations. They came individually wrapped and smelled delicious. All the kids loved them.

I wanted the lollipops to double as a centerpiece as well. So I began my search for something that would work as a flower pot. I came across this super cute etsy shop Lima Bean Kids. They have tons of little pails to choose from and can be customized any way you like.

To make the centerpiece I put a piece of floral foam in the pail and arranged the lollipops to look like a bouquet of flowers and added some green basket filler to resemable moss. Cute right? And now, Ava has the pail in her room and puts all her little trinkets in it.

Not wanting the adults to leave empty handed I had to come up with a little something for them to take home as well. As luck would have it, a friend of mine just started her own cookie business - Doodlebug Cookies. She came up with these gorgeous and equally scrumptious treats:

They each came individually wrapped and shipped with lots of bubble wrap - not a single broken cookie. Oh and she also sent along extras so that I could taste them right away - nom nom nom!!!!

Now it was time to find a sweet little outfit for Ava to wear. Once again Etsy didn't let me down. There are so many incredible designers out there but here is what we decided on:

Who doesn't right?

Today I stopped in to return a gift and exchange it for something else and maybe grab some seltzer.

Well, it's didn't happen like that. $90.87 later I was running across the parking lot in the pouring rain with all my new goodies. Now don't get me wrong I bought a lot of things we needed like handsoap, cereal, tooth paste. But it all went down hill when I started to wander...silly me - I should have known better.

Oh look at these cute umbrellas. Caden just asked me for an umbrella for the bus stop.

Must be fate, one goes in the cart.

Continuing on..... cart comes to a stop at the 30% off rack where all the little girl skirts and tops are SCREAMING Ava's name. She "NEEDS" this skirt and top. So what that she just got a boat load of clothes for her birthday. She didn't get this outfit. In the cart it goes.

Continuing on further....I come to the Liberty of London display. I immediately get all giddy looking at the prints, on cups, plates, picture frames, handbags, and there they were.... STORAGE BINS!!!

I go a little gaga for anything of the organizational nature. The wheels start turning, what can I use these for? Where can I put them? Then it came to me.... PATTERNS!!!!

Wood Beaded Necklaces

If you used to read my other blog (veneziebags.blogspot.com) then you know that I am a big fan of sharing tutorials from other crafters. Well I am going to continue that little "segment" but I am also going to share with you my finished project from the tutorial as well.

I came across V and Co. early last year. I drool over all the craftiness that goes on there. This is one of my favorite tutorials on their site: Lime Green Necklace. It is super easy and costs next to nothing to make.

Here are some pictures of one of my finished necklaces. What do you think? Not bad right?

I love the look of larger beads with the smaller ones. I am thinking about making a few more in some spring colors... maybe turquoise or a pale pink?? I might have to wait until it's a little warmer out. I had to paint them in my garage and the fumes were a little much.

I have to be honest and admit that I have never been much a fan of Valentines Day. I have always felt that is was a little hokey. To each their own right? HOWEVER, I can not help but be extremely impressed with all the handmade items I have come across that are Valentine related.

Ladies, if you are playing the "he loves me... he loves me not" game this holiday, maybe you should think about gussying up in ones of these little numbers for your sweetie.

New Patterns by Patty Young

I am a little biased towards the Pillow Trio pattern because I was a tester for the Busy Bee Hive pillow. I can tell you first hand that Patty's patterns are a breeze to follow & chuck full of pictures.

Today is the official Grand Opening of my shop Venezie Designs.com

Some of you might be wondering what Venezie {ven - zee} Designs is? Well, originally I began my sewing business as Venezie Bags. I made lots and lots of handbags so at the time, the name was fitting. As time went on I starting making other items such as aprons, burp cloths, brooches etc... Then I began dabbling in pattern design as well. As you can imagine the name Venezie Bags became a little too "constricting". I was branching out, afraid to branch out too far, I wanted my clients new and old to still be able to recognize me.

So Venezie Designs was born.

After many months debating which direction I wanted my business to grow, I decided to bite the bullet and open a shop that offers the same handmade items you've come to know from Venezie Bags and toss in some fabric and sewing patterns as well. Kind of a one-stop-shop if you will. I adore fabric shopping and the thought of being surrounded by it all day just makes my heart happy.

To celebrate the opening of my new shop I have marked down all the Chelsea Drawstring Bags, Melrose Totes and Newbury bags to $30.00. I have also listed lots of fabrics in the SALE section and finally for my lovely blog readers I am going to do a little giveway.

Venezie Bags and Venezie Designs have now merged. Lots of new things are coming your way but first let me explain what Venezie Designs is.

I wanted to have a sort of one-stop-shop experience for my clients. In the mood to sew? Great, select one of the many patterns in my shop and then pick up some fabric to make that snazzy design. Not into sewing? No problem, there will be plenty of handmade, ready to ship items in my shop as well.
